About Kerrianne

  • A qualified health professional who has completed extra specialist training in mental health. AMHSWs are one of only three types of allied health workers that Medicare covers for mental health sessions — alongside psychologists and occupational therapists.

  • Both are covered by Medicare. Psychologists tend to focus on how a person thinks and behaves. Accredited Mental Health Social Workers like Kerrianne look at the bigger picture — relationships, family, environment and life circumstances. This is especially helpful when what’s going on is tied to family, trauma or the world around someone.

Sessions

  • It’s mainly about getting to know each other. Kerrianne will ask what brought the person in and what they’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. Together, goals and a direction will start to take shape.

  • It’s different for everyone. There’s no fixed number and no minimum commitment — it’s worked out as things go and the client is always in control. With a Medicare plan, up to 10 sessions per year are rebated.

  • Kerrianne uses a range of evidence-based methods including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed Practice, Solution-Focused Therapy, Strengths-Based Practice, Mindfulness, Psycho-education, Relaxation Strategies, Skills Training and Interpersonal Therapy. More detail is in the Services section.

  • Yes — secure, private online sessions are available through an Australian platform. Phone sessions are also available. Telehealth is available across Australia.

Fees & Funding

  • $180 for 50 minutes. With a Medicare rebate, $87.25 comes back, so the out-of-pocket cost is $92.75. Not a bulk billing practice. Fully funded options are also available through NDIS, WorkSafe, TAC, DVA, Victims of Crime and FRMP. For full details see Fees & Funding.

  • It depends on the fund and level of cover. Funds that recognise Kerrianne include HCF, Bupa, Teachers Health, Doctors Health, St Lukes, Phoenix, TUH, Medibank, Mildura Health, Peoplecare and GMHBA. Clients should check with their fund before the first session.

  • At least 24 hours’ notice by phone or email is required to cancel or change an appointment. Less than 24 hours’ notice: $95 fee. Genuine emergencies: contact Kerrianne to talk it through.

Confidentiality

  • Yes. What is shared stays between the client and Kerrianne. The only times information can be shared without permission are situations required by law: if a child is at risk of abuse, if there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to the client or someone else, or if a court orders it. Where possible, Kerrianne will speak with the client before anything is shared. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.
